Randy’s 2015 Gobbler

What a hunt! After Adam bagged his opening day bird, he and I started trolling for another in southwest Virginia’s National Forest. It was a windy morning and hearing a gobble was going to be tough. Nevertheless, a faint response was heard as Adam called from the road. We headed up the mountain to an open hardwood flat that ran along the mountain. Unsure of where exactly the bird may be, we snuck along calling at the edge of each holler and hoping for an answer. Then BAM! We backed off and the gobbler and his hens came in to 25 yards. He gobbled behind an old oak tree which sent my heart into my throat before stepping out and presenting me with a shot!
