Randy and I were working had all year to get a bird down on camera. And this one finally cooperated. We had hiked about 3 miles into the National Forest when we finally struck not one but five gobblers running together. We set up and imediately began experiencing the “classic can you see him” conversation. Randy was on the camera and was having a tough time with the auto focus to get on the bird so we waited until he was less than 20 yards. Unfortunately, the shot could not penetrate the thick laurel and the bird got away. We caught up to them about 300 yards farther out the ridge where he came in for a wide open 35 yard shot that I made with my Mossberg 835.
